“Every mile is two in winter.”—George Herbert
Can I get an amen?
Life, too, works this way sometimes. In those cold and gray “winter times” of our lives, it seems like it takes twice as much prayer and persistence to make any forward progress at all. We take a few cautious steps and slip on the ice of unexpected—and often unpleasant—surprises.
The good news is, when we slip and slide and the cold winds of uncertainty blow in our lives, God is there with us, as we open ourselves to the different manifestations of the Divine Presence in our lives; like that person who calls and brightens our day, or the warmth we may feel from a particular book or article we read.
May we all continue to move forward through those “winters of the soul,” knowing that through the love of God, one day spring—with all its beauty, color, and warmth—will mostly surely arrive.
Grace and Peace,
