To Live a Life Pleasing to God
Hebrews 10:32-39

Bible Excerpt
Do not, therefore, abandon that confidence of yours; it brings a great reward. For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

Reflection
by Anthony B. Robinson

The author of the Epistle to the Hebrews writes to those who live between the times. Something was started in their lives by Christ and their faith, but the end or fulfillment has not yet come. We live, as a friend used to say, “always on this side of the Promised Land.” We have begun, but we’re not there yet. The author of Hebrews could see that living between the times was taking a toll and that some people were just giving up altogether. Faith was no longer burning brightly, it was flickering and in some cases had burned out altogether. So a fair amount of this epistle is exhortation to keep on keeping on. “Do not, therefore, abandon that confidence of yours . . . . For you need endurance.” Sometimes it seems like such endurance belongs to another time and age and not our own. And yet I suspect the truth is that the endurance of faith, though it may be out of fashion somewhat these days, is really a timeless truth and a truth for our time.

Prayer
Lord, some days, it’s discouraging. Some days I feel like giving up. Don’t let me. Send your angels and send your Word to encourage me in my walk, that I may live a life pleasing in your sight. Amen
