IS IT MAN-MADE?
Here are some questions that have been asked Park Rangers around the country:
Grand Canyon National Park
Was this man-made?
I bought tickets for the elevator to the bottom — where is it?
Is the mule train air conditioned?
Everglades National Park
Are the alligators real?
Are the baby alligators for sale?
What time does the two o’clock bus leave?
Denali National Park (Alaska)
How much does Mount McKinley weigh?
Mesa Verde National Park
Did people build this, or did Indians?
Why did they build the ruins so close to the road?
Do you know of any undiscovered ruins?
Carlsbad Caverns National Park
How much of the cave is underground?
So what’s in the unexplored part of the cave?
Does it ever rain in here?
How many Ping-Pong balls would it take to fill this up?
Yellowstone National Park
How do you turn Old Faithful on?
When does the guy who turns it on get to sleep?
We had no trouble finding the park entrances, but where are the exits?
People are amazing, aren’t they? Teachers told me in school, “There’s no such thing as a stupid question”, but I think some folks have worked overtime to prove they were wrong. In my opinion, the “most stupid” question though, has to be that first question asked of the Grand Canyon, “Is it man-made?”
I have asked some stupid questions over my life, but never once have I looked at the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains and the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains and wondered, “Is it man-made?” Never once have I watched the waves crash on the shores of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, looked out over the water as it meets the horizon and wondered, “Is it man-made?” Never once have I gazed up at the stars and the moon and the planets at night and wondered, “Is it man-made?”
The beauty of this universe virtually shouts out in praise of its Creator!
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.” (Psalm 19:1-3)
Thank you, Lord, for the beauty of this world which is infinitely greater than those things we humans are able to build!
Have a great day!
