I woke up this mirning, got out of bed, and started complaining about feeling my age.
I have to now admit that sometimes the timing of God/the Divine/the Univerese is awesome, for I checked my e-mail, and found this:
PSALM OF BLESSINGS OF OLD AGE
(based on Psalm 8)
Commissioned by the Center for Older Adults
O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,
the moon and the stars which thou have established
who are we that you are mindful of us?
You have made us little lower than the angels
and crowned us with loving-kindness.
You have given us a long enough life
to learn many the lessons You have placed within us.
We have learned acceptance—of the life we have
and the people we live it with.
We have learned to see Your world through eyes of wisdom
its beauty, its terrors and its joys.
We have learned to be patient with ourselves
and a world too much in a hurry.
We have learned to bend without bowing
and to keep on learning even from people with little to teach.
We have learned to love the birds of the air
The fish of the sea and whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
But most of all, we have learned to stand just outside
The circle of eternity and say of our lives: it is enough.
Oh Lord our Lord, how majestic is thy name in all the earth.
