DIVERSITY and uniqueness are evident throughout creation. While reading a tourist brochure, I learned that the rivers Negro and Solimoes in the Amazon region run parallel for hundreds of miles, before finally, in their last few miles, coming together to join the Amazon River. An aerial photo in this brochure captured this natural wonder, indicated by the bold and distinct color of each river.
Each person we meet is a greater natural wonder. Jesus accepted
everyone — with unconditional love and on an equal basis — even
those despised by society. When we encounter persons who differ from us, we do well to deal gently with them, asking God to increase our love for them. Being careful not to overwhelm people with our words or actions is one way we show respect and love. Can we accept those with opinions or views that differ from ours?
Just as the rivers in the Amazon, we can flow in tandem with those on different paths, respecting their origin and uniqueness, trusting that ultimately we are one in God.
Prayer: Dear God, teach us to value each person created in your
likeness and to treat everyone we meet with respect. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Our diversity demonstrates God’s creativity. Celebrate it!
