Gay Republicans Offended That Obama Supports Gay Marriage. Seriously.

Well here’s a Blog post that this Hippie doesn’t have to write herself!!

Gay Republicans Offended That Obama Supports Gay Marriage. Seriously..

So NOW you’re Mad?

I emant to ree-post this awhile ago, but in light of the the fact that Super Tuesday is on supposed to be Tuesday, March 6, 2012., I thought this might be wirth sharing NOW. – Ninure da Hippie

So Now You’re Mad

By and via Vanessa Johnson Butler...

“IF ONLY THOSE WHO SEEM TO BE SO MAD AT PRESIDENT OBAMA WOULD READ THIS AND REFLECT A MOMENT, THEY MIGHT SAY:
Hmmmmmmmmmm… YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT!!………

Now, since Obama’s regime, all of a sudden, folks have gotten mad, and want to take America Back…BACK TO WHAT/WHERE is my question?

After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad?

You didn’t get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn’t get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate Energy policy and push us to invade Iraq.
You didn’t get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn’t get mad when we spent over 800 billion (and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn’t get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the previous 42 Presidents combined.

You didn’t get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn’t get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that shipped 6 million American jobs out of the country.

You didn’t get mad when they didn’t catch Bin Laden.

You didn’t get mad when Bush ran up 10 trillion dollars in combined budget and current account deficits.

You didn’t get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn’t get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.

You didn’t get mad when we gave people who had more money than they could spend, the 1%, over a trillion dollars in tax breaks.

You didn’t get mad with the worst 8 years of job creations in several decades.

You didn’t get mad when over 200,000 US Citizens lost their lives because they had no health insurance.

You didn’t get mad when lack of oversight and regulations from the Bush Administration caused US Citizens to lose 12 trillion dollars in investments, retirement, and home values.

You finally got mad when a black man was elected President and decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick…

PS. This one definitely needs to be circulated just for a reminder sake!”

A single drop…

Together we fill the ocean

It’s not in the Gospels….

Seriously, very little of what Jesus actually taught seems to be supported by the folks who are constantly hollering about ” biblical principles”. Ub fact, I just read an article about the last Republican debate which says that the ” Christian” audience booed, BOOOED, when the “golden rule” was quoted.

I find that telling AND frightening.

GOP values not Jesus like

What in the World is Homophobia?

(I found this homophobia scale helpful. I was also surprised at some of the events listed here regarding LGBTQ history. This is FYI – Ninure Da Hippie)

Riddle Homophobia Scale

In a clinical sense, homophobia is defined as an intense, irrational fear of same-sex relations that becomes overwhelming to the person. Below are four negative homophobic levels and four positive levels of attitudes towards lesbian and gay relationships/people. These levels were developed by Dr. Dorothy Riddle, a psychologist from Tuscon, Arizona.

Homophobic Levels of Attitude

l Repulsion: Homosexuality is seen as a “crime against nature.” Gay/lesbian/bisexual people are sick, crazy, immoral, sinful, wicked, etc. Anything is justified to change them: prison, hospitalization, negative behavior therapy, electroshock therapy, etc.

l Pity: Heterosexual chauvinism. Heterosexuality is more mature and certainly to be preferred. Any possibility of “becoming straight” should be reinforced, and those who seem to be born “that way” should be pitied, “the poor dears.”

l Tolerance: homosexuality is just a phase of adolescent development that many people go through and most people “grow out of.” Thus, lesbian/gay/bisexual people are less mature than “Straights” and should be treated with the protectiveness and indulgence used with a child. Lesbian/gay/bisexual people should not be given positions of authority because they are still working through their adolescent behavior.

l Acceptance: Still implies there is something to accept. Characterized by such statements as “You’re not a lesbian to me, you’re a person!” or “That’s fine with me as long as you don’t flaunt it!”

Positive Levels of Attitude

l Support: Work to safeguard the rights of all persons. People at this level may be uncomfortable themselves, but they are aware of the homophobic climate and the irrational unfairness.

l Admiration: Acknowledge that being lesbian/gay/bisexual in our society takes strength. People at this level are willing to truly examine their homophobic attitudes, values, and behaviors.

l Appreciation: Value the diversity of people and see lesbian/gay/bisexual persons as a valid part of diversity. These people are willing to combat homophobia in themselves and others.

l Nurturance: Assumes that gay/lesbian/bisexual people are indispensable in our society. They view lesbians/gays/bisexuals with genuine affection and delight, and are wiling to be allies and advocates.

A USA-Centric LGBT History

1649: The first known conviction for lesbian activity in North America occurs in March when Sarah White Norman is charged with “lewd behavior each with other upon a bed” with Mary Vincent Hammon in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Hammon was under 16 and not prosecuted.

1869: Kertbeny (American writer) coins “homosexual” as part of a system for the classification of sexual types. He believed that each of his categories were rooted in heredity, and used that argument as a basis for opposition to laws against consensual sex between men.

1870: Joseph and His Friend: A Story of Pennsylvania is published, possibly the first American novel about a homosexual relationship.

1909: Freud rejects heredity theories of the causes of homosexuality and that homosexuals are necessarily feminine. According to Freud, a boy can develop into an effeminate heterosexual, a masculine homosexual, or some other combination of gender and sexuality.

1919: Different from the Others, one of the first explicitly gay films, is released.

1933: The National Socialist German Workers Party bans homosexual groups. Homosexuals are sent to concentration camps.

1945: Upon liberation of Nazi concentration camps by Allied forces, those interned for homosexuality are not freed, but required to serve out the full term of their sentences under Paragraph 175.

1950: 190 individuals in the United States are dismissed from government employment for their sexual orientation. McCarthy, a Republican Senator from Wisconsin, helped further this aim in an era known for “McCarthyism,” which became a synonym for mudslinging and baseless defamation.

1962: Illinois is the first state to decriminalize homosexual contact.

1967: First gay campus group, Columbia University’s Student Homophile League, gains official recognition.

1969: On the 29th of June, lesbians and gay men at the Stonewall Inn fought against the frequent raids, harassment, and arrests by New York police, forcing the police to barricade themselves inside the bar. The riots lasted three days.

1973: American Psychiatric Association declares homosexuality is normal and no longer to be listed as a psychiatric disorder.

1974:

*Kathy Kozachenko becomes the first openly gay American elected to public office when she wins a seat on the Ann Arbor, Michigan City Council.

*Robert Grant founds American Christian Cause to oppose the “gay agenda,” the beginning of modern Christian politics in America.

1977: Proposition 6, barring teachers from being openly gay, was defeated by voters in a campaign led by Harvey Milk.

1978: The third out Gay American politician, San Francisco City Supervisor Harvey Milk is murdered in City Hall by former City Supervisor Dan White.

1982:

*Wisconsin is first state to pass a statewide same-sex rights bill.

*The condition to be known as AIDS had acquired a number of names – GRID (gay-related immune deficiency), ‘gay cancer’, and ‘gay compromise syndrome.’ The CDC used the term AIDS for the first time in September 1982, when it reported that an average of one to two cases of AIDS were being diagnosed in America every day.

1984:

*Berkeley, California becomes the first city in the U.S. to adopt a program of domestic partnership health benefits for city employees.

*West Hollywood, CA is founded and becomes the first known city to elect a city council where a majority of the members are openly gay or lesbian.

1987: The group ACT UP was formed to promote positive change for HIV/AIDS patients. The group demanded FDA assistance in affording AZT and brought awareness to the AIDS issue in America.

1989: Denmark is the first country in the world to give legal recognition to same-sex partnerships. Within two years, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and France followed suit.

1990: Policies restricting gays and lesbians from immigrating to the United States are rescinded

1992: World Health Organization decides homosexuality is no longer an illness (for the last 10 years, people had been calling in “gay” in protest of this and other policies).

1993: Senator Sam Nunn’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy for the US Military becomes law. The law includes the determination that “persons who demonstrate a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts” are an “unacceptable risk” for inclusion in the military. Almost 14,000 troops are discharged under the law between 1993 and 2010.

1996: President Clinton signs the Defense of Marriage Act, denying federal benefits to same-sex spouses should gay marriage ever become legal, and creating an exception to the US Constitution allowing states to disregard same-sex marriages performed in other states.

1998: Matthew Shepherd is murdered in Laramie, Wyoming.

2000: Vermont becomes the first US State to legalize civil unions.

2003: In a historic decision on June 26th, the United States Supreme Court struck down all sodomy laws in its decision in the case of Lawrence V. Texas.

2006: The State of Wisconsin amends their state constitution stating: “Section 13 of article XIII of the constitution states that only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state and that a legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized in this state.”

2007: The US House of Representatives passes the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which provides protection to lesbians, gays, and bisexuals against w

The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
– Romans 13:9

I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary — the evil it does is permanent.
– Mahatma Gandhi

In many parts of the world the people are searching for a solution which would link the two basic values: peace and justice. The two are like bread and salt for mankind.
